Introducing a New Form of Artistic Preservation

Legacy in Color presents a museum-quality body of work centered on the original paint tubes and tools used by Ernie Barnes throughout his career. Known for his dynamic compositions and cultural impact, Barnes’s work—most notably The Sugar Shack—has shaped visual culture across generations.

This initiative shifts the lens from finished paintings to the materials that made them possible. Each preserved paint tube carries physical traces of use—pressure, pigment, touch—serving as a direct extension of the artist’s hand. In this way, the artifacts function as both historical documents and sculptural objects.

Curated into shadowbox installations and accompanied by scholarly cataloging, these works are positioned for exhibition and acquisition by museums, institutions, and private collectors.
